Patricia Payne received her B.A. from the University of Michigan and J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center -- where she served as an Editor on the Journal for Law and Policy in International Business. Ms. Payne received her MBA from Johns Hopkins University in 2004.
Ms. Payne heads the firm's practice and serves as outside general counsel to over 30 area businesses and non-profit organizations in the Washington Metropolitan area. In addition to providing comprehensive representation in civil and commercial litigation matters, Ms. Payne also counsels and represents clients in various business and employment related matters including: new business formation (including LLP, LLC), securities and transactional work (including private placements of debt and equity), preparation and negotiation of contracts (buy-sell, shareholder, operating, licensing, employment, consulting and other agreements), assistance with valuations, mergers, acquisitions and asset based transactions, internal operational issues (including employment/labor disputes), litigation and arbitration of employment disputes (including FINRA) and business wind-downs/dissolutions.
Ms. Payne has also represented hundreds of individuals in business and contract disputes, labor and employment matters (before the EEOC and in state and federal courts) and in addressing business, commercial and estate planning needs.
Ms. Payne began her career as an attorney advisor to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission where she served in the Divisions of Market Regulation and Corporation Finance -- before entering private practice. Ms. Payne founded the firm in 1992 with the objective of providing effective responses and solutions to businesses and individuals in their legal needs.
In addition to membership in the DC, Maryland and Virginia Bar Associations, Ms. Payne is also a member of: The American Bar Association, the Bar Association of the District of Columbia (BADC), the Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers Association (MWELA), The National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA), the American Trial Lawyers Association (ATLA), the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association (VTLA), the Fairfax Bar Association and the Potomac Executive Network (PEN).
Ms. Payne is also an Ambassador Member of Hope Connections for Cancer and a member of the Board of Directors of Signature Theatre.
